And as I have been reminded by every doctor and physical therapist the fact that William can successfully nurse and drink from a bottle is "surprising", "a blessing" and "significant". Children with down syndrome have "low tone" so they have to work extra hard to develop muscles in their body to work (from mouth muscles to muscles inside esophagus, stomach and other organs).Low tone doesn't go away - it has to be "exercised". Therefore it is not only a blessing and miracle that William can nurse for all the good breastmilk benefits but also for development of those muscles. The dr. first said that he would go home with a feeding tube in his mouth. He already showed them otherwise! Proof that your prayers are significant!
